Objective and Project Strategy
Objective
By May 2016
new innovative short term partnerships between current SE NGO partners in Mali,
BF, Kenya, and Mozambique and a number of local youth CBOs are explored and
documented.
With this project, SE and Umande Trust wants
to take the opportunity to explore a revitalization of old partnerships, new
innovative ways of documentation, higher involvement of youth, online networking,
and a short window for the execution of activities. The strategy is to explore
and gain experiences in how these new types of looser partnerships and new ways
of documentation work and what benefits and challenges they have.
Revitalization
of Partnerships
SE and Umande Trust aims to alter
the role of the current partner organization from ‘project implementer’ to ‘mentor
of CBOs’. Focus is on how the current established NGO partners can facilitate
less resourceful youth groups and CBOs and work as a kind of mentors. The current
partners(Umande Trust in Kenyan Case) will maintain the responsibility for the financial administration. The
youth will be responsible for planning, implementing, and documenting
activities and they will be reimbursed according to effort. The CBOs will
choose which methodologies to use in the campaigns and they are supported by
SE’s current partners during the preparation and implementation of the
campaigns. SE believes that this kind of looser partnerships through the current
partners can add extra energy to the activities. The involvement of youth has
several potential advantages such as increased adaptability, ownership, credibility,
legitimacy, and outreach. In addition, the partnerships between youth groups
and CBOs and experienced, resourceful NGOs partners will support capacity
building to plan, execute and monitor activities and thereby strengthen the
civil society at the grass root level.
The Baton
The virtual baton symbolizes that a country is responsible for a
campaign. There are batons present in 2 countries at the same time. The baton introduces
an element of competition that can inspire the baton holder to make better
campaigns and share with friends – who can comment and eventually vote for the
best campaign on the Online Platform.
Online
Platform
The Online Platform is a means to explore and investigate what
encourages and motivates to communication and sharing of experiences among
like minded organizations across borders. The main idea of the Platform is to be
interactive and motivate to dialogue and sharing across national borders and
potential language barriers. It is a means to communicate, share experiences,
commit to the project, cooperate across borders, and test new ways of
documentation. In order to strengthen then motivation to participate at the
Platform, each of the 4 partner NGOs will have a flat screen monitor installed
at their office displacing the Platform.
The Platform will function as an internal forum for the youth groups to
discuss, give input and feedback and to communicate their learning process,
experiences and results to each other. The Platform will facilitate that the
CBOs further develop their capacities in planning, implementing, and monitoring
campaigns through their participation in the Platform where best practices,
experiences, and lessons learned are shared with the other involved parties.
The Platform will be very visual and interactive and contain visual
documentation from all campaigns in both video and pictures. It will be
possible to write comments and follow a blog. In addition, the platform will
have a public part to expose the project and disseminate results to
stakeholders and other interested parties.
Documentation
& Communication
SE’s and Umande's experiences show that reporting in writing often is a great
challenge to less resourceful CBOs. Therefore, SE and Umande wishes to explore new ways of
documentation and monitoring emphasizing audio-visual means using social media including
film clips, blogs and podcast. In addition to ease the monitoring, these ways
of documenting are expected to be appealing to the youth and to be more suited
for communicating the status and achievements of the various campaigns.
South-South
Sharing
Sharing experiences is a prerequisite for an approach emphasizing
learning-by-doing. Methods and campaigning technology like social media are
shared digitally between countries both on the Online Platform and face-to-face
in joint workshops on two occasions. All CBOs will give presentations on their
working methods and best practice examples at workshops. By mixing online and
face-to-face communication the project will attempt to create an enabling
environment for sharing. SE and Umande Trust aims to investigate new approaches and gain
experiences in which communication tools can motivate and encourage partners to
increase dialogue and sharing.
